At 19 years old her daughter was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Without the Affordable Care Act her daughter would have been dropped from her health insurance right after college graduation --at 21 years of age. As a cancer survivor her daughter has an automatic pre-existing condition that makes getting health insurance incredibly costly and difficult. When President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act he ensured that Katherine's daughter could stay on her health insurance until she was 26 and that nobody will be able to discriminate against her for being a cancer survivor.
